Generation VII
John Isham of Coventry
1440–1502
Life
John Isham of Coventry was a younger son of Robert Isham of Pytchley, esquire, by Margaret.1,2 From about 1471–73 he sued in the Common Pleas for breaking his close at Coventry.3 In 1486 the Pipe Roll charged John Iseham with the farm of the subsidy and ulnage of cloths in Coventry and Warwickshire (with Stafford and Leicester), matching his Coventry career.4
Calendar and Chancery notices already on this profile record him as a servant of Edward IV (custody of Fulbroke) and as carrying messages to Coventry’s council.? In 1485 he was a feoffee of brother William’s lands.? In 1486–87 he joined William, Robert the clerk and Richard as executor of their father against Richard Langton of London.5
He should not be confused with later Johns of Coventry descended from him.?
